confirmation

year 1

In order to keep moving along in the Confirmation process, we will be implementing a distance learning program!

Greetings year 1 confirmation candidates and families!

We are so disappointed that we weren’t able to spend time together at our Confirmation Session this month.  We hope you are all staying safe and well at this time.  We are praying for all of you!

During this time of separation, we will still be asking our candidates to embrace the preparation process for Confirmation.  This will involve choosing a Confirmation Saint and selecting a sponsor.

CONFIRMATION SAINT PROJECT AND LETTER:

When times are difficult, there are no better friends to call on for help than our champions in heaven:  the Saints!  So, we are asking all of our Year 1 Candidates to find a friend in heaven by diving into the Saint Project and Saint Letter.
We ask each of you to watch the following video from Father Mike Schmitz (Ascension Presents). He discusses how we can rely on the Communion of Saints:

We have attached the directions for completing the Saint Project and Saint Letter. In brief, we ask each student to spend time researching and choosing a Saint that he or she is ready to form a relationship with.  Your catechists are available to answer questions or provide suggestions if needed:  looking for a Patron Saint for athletes? (Saint Sebastian).  Are you a musician? (Saint Cecilia) Do you want to meet a young saint? (Saint Jose Sanchez del Rio or Saint Therese of Lisieux).  Any other questions? PLEASE ASK US: WE ARE DELIGHTED TO HELP YOU!

SAINT PROJECT:

The Saint Project asks each student to create an individual project about his or her saint.  It can be a poster, a power point, a diorama, a movie, an essay.  Specific directions of what the project must include are attached.

SAINT LETTER:

Write a letter to your Saint! Email the letter to CMulcaire@holytrinityparish.org or mail to Holy Trinity Parish, FFM, 3111 Tierra de Dios Drive, EDH, CA 95762.  Directions of what to include in the letter are attached.

We sincerely hope that all our candidates enjoy this experience of choosing a Saint and getting to know him or her better.  Again, please don’t hesitate to contact your catechists if you have any questions! We will also be contacting you midway through the project to see how you are progressing!

CONFIRMATION SPONSOR:

Just as our friends in heaven help us, so do our friends on earth.  Each candidate is asked to select a confirmation sponsor.

What is a Confirmation Sponsor?

The role of a sponsor is to walk with the candidate and guide him or her to become a disciple of Christ.  The candidate should feel very comfortable discussing issues of faith with his/her sponsor.  Ideally, it is someone living nearby, so that the candidate and sponsor can interact on a regular basis, although we realize that this is not possible for everyone.  In Year 2, confirmation sponsors will play an active role in the formation of each candidate by attending service project and sessions with them; keep this in mind.

All sponsors MUST be:

  • A practicing Roman Catholic who has received all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation).  Don’t ask someone who only goes to Mass twice a year:  you are looking for someone who can guide you in developing your faith.

  • Age 16 or older when chosen as a sponsor

  • If married, the sponsor must be married in the Catholic Church.

The above requirements are from the Diocese, so we really can’t bypass them.

We are also attaching the Sponsor Form.  When you choose your sponsor, have them fill out the form and then return it to the FFM office: Holy Trinity Parish, FFM, 3111 Tierra de Dios Drive, EDH, CA 95762.

You are all in our daily prayers, and we look forward to a time when we can be together in person again!
