It all started when Tim chaperoned an annual youth convention
that his son attended. ‘I was very active in youth ministry when
I was in high school and after graduation. I have been away from youth
ministry for many years. Then, I went to the youth convention last year,
and there was such an incredible energy and spirit
, more than
500 high school students celebrating Mass and praising God together,
and I thought to myself, "I’ve been missing this in my life
for years".’
When Tim returned home, he offered his volunteer services
to assist Holy Trinity Church’s youth minister. When she relocated
to another parish, Tim, like the fishermen who dropped their nets to
follow Christ, left his 18-year career in retail management and answered
the call to become Holy Trinity Church’s new youth minister. "The
youth are such a huge presence in our parish. One of my goals is for
junior high and high school youth to become more involved in the ministries,
both service and liturgical."
After graduating from high school in Grass Valley, California,
Tim continued his education at Sierra College, Sacramento City College,
and California State University, Sacramento. Youth ministry continued
to be a priority for him. He worked four summers as a counselor, and
three winters on retreat staffs, at Camp Pendola, a Catholic youth camp
for the Diocese of Sacramento. Tim met his wife, Lisa, while they were
both counselors at Camp Pendola in 1980. They have four children, all
of whom provide continuing inspiration for Tim’s work with youth
in the church. Tim has spent the last 18 years in retail management for
home improvement centers in Sacramento.
